No wonder Marina Bay Sands is one of the places where expectations are so high and the hype is so strong that they are convinced that it will not live up to it. Yet this breathtaking complex with its revolutionary Design is one of those rare breeds that offers what you hope for.
Visually captivating, it is simply impossible to look away. Crowned “The most Instagrammed hotel in the world in 2017”, can you actually say you were in Singapore If you didn’t take your picture in front of this landmark?
The integrated resort spans 845,000 square meters and offers a full list of attractions, including the Sands Theatre, Marquee Nightclub, Casino, and more than 170 shops in the luxury Shoppes shopping district, with Venetian-style (or Sampan) gondola rides on an internal canal (yes, really). Celebrity chefs show off their Talent in more than 50 Restaurants with the opportunity to enjoy their fun along the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade, an extensive hiking and recreation area.
The resort’s ArtScience Museum is housed in a spectacular lotus-inspired building and is another icon of the city’s skyline. Spectra, the free nighttime light and water show, entertains crowds around the waterfront and shows Marina Bay Sands in (literally) a different light while cementing its connection to the city.
Although food and shopping are action for the top spot in my vacation priorities, this time — even with everything on offer in the resort — it’s the hotel itself that I can’t wait for. Considered one of the largest and most famous hotels in the world, the Marina Bay Sands Hotel features three towers on 55 levels with over 2,500 rooms and suites. The hotel is famous with the 57th floor 1.2 acres cantilevered Sands SkyPark and the iconic infinity pool stretches for 150 meters. While a dip in the pool and poolside Selfies are only available to guests, the public can purchase tickets to the Sands SkyPark public viewing platform and see from there what the excitement is (Guaranteed).
After the hustle and bustle in the hotel’s bustling lobby, we were lucky enough to be checked into a 44-square-meter club room. When we entered, all the excited chatter quickly died down as we stood in front of a stylish and spacious space with floor-to-ceiling windows and mesmerizing city views.
With a modern design aesthetic, a spacious living room and a huge marble bathroom with an oversized powder room, our bedroom was simply stunning.
While the resort offers an integrated experience with tons of options to spend the day, like moths at the lights, we were drawn to the 57th floor and pool. When we found ourselves on the pool deck, we alternated between people watching, swimming and, yes, taking Selfies. One way or another, the pool makes everyone a Selfie expert, even if it’s a spectacle (and a lesson) to see the real Insta professionals in action-chin up, chest out, hair sanded and pulled out. Yes, it’s a busy space, but it’s manageable and it’s quite understandable – it’s where it is.
As a guest Club Room, we were invited to Club55, the exclusive Marina Bay Sands lounge with panoramic views of the 55th with free breakfast, afternoon tea and an evening cocktail session, The world-class hospitality at this world-class venue is one of the few things to pull away from the pool. With a wide variety of local and international food and drinks, ample seating and excellent Service, Club55 offers one of the most remarkable Club Lounge experiences in a city that stands out. Again, while busy, it’s transparent, there’s plenty of staff, seating and food choices – everything is in balance.
But it’s not just about Chillaxen at Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort. The award-winning Sands Expo and Convention Centre covers 120,000 square metres of exhibition and convention space. It spans five floors with 250 meeting rooms and the largest ballroom in the region and can accommodate 45,000 delegates. This venue was proudly the first ISO 20121 certified property in Southeast Asia and is committed to sustainable practices.
The Marina Bay Sands Hotel redefines luxury with its 156 suites, 132 Club rooms and 59 Grand Club rooms. Live like kings (or at least Hollywood kings) in one of the oversized suites with baby wings, personal gyms and massage rooms, and even a pool table in some of them. Or for the ultimate pleasure: the 600-square-meter Chairman Suite is a tasteful masterpiece of exquisite extravagance.
In the hotel, however, a number of accommodation options and Budgets are available, as well as the choice of view. Look over the city skyline and Marina Bay or towards the gardens of Singapore Bay and Straits with their patiently attentive rows of container ships-each direction is fascinating.
And it is getting bigger and bigger with the announcement of a new fourth tower to be built. It will adjoin the existing complex with 1,000 luxury suites, a state-of-the-art 15,000-seat arena, SkyPark, rooftop pool and restaurants.
Architect Moshe Safthe design inspiration for Marina Bay Sands was to create a building that is “extrovert, connected to the city and speaks to them”. The number of guests, visitors and “spoken” people every day in Singapore means that he has broken his quest. And with nearly 100 percent occupancy throughout the year, the word is that, yes, Marina Bay Sands lives up to the hype.
