Shows or entertainment in Shanghai

　Shanghai has always been, and still is, the city in China for entertainment. The city not only has great restaurants and bars but also, the biggest selection of theatre, film and art available anywhere in China . And this selection is of a class and quality which is sophisticated enough to compete with most western cities. 

　On the theatre and the stage, there are regular acrobatics displays, a MUST for travelers to the city. Even the most doubtful spectator, will not fail to be enthralled and amused by the incredible flexibility and strength of these performers. 

　It is always worth checking out the magnificent Grand Theatre to see what is on too. The Theatre regularly hosts Chinese and Western operas, classical music performances and various plays. There are also regular Western films on at some of the city's entertainment centers.

　Shanghai attracts most of the big name Chinese musicians and also pulls in western and Japanese performers and DJs on a regular basis. Currently, the best bars are around Maoming Road and nearby.

　The City's contemporary art scene is impressive too. Shanghai , long the center of more radical ideas is now one of the most important city's in China for young and new artists from throughout the country to display their work. Shanghai has a long list of art galleries including Shang Art in Fuxing Park and EastLink on Fuxing Road . Aside from these, there are also some good exhibitions in the Shanghai Museum in People's Square.

　Naturally there are all the usual Chinese favorites too. Bowling alleys, Karaoke halls and Computer Games rooms are scattered throughout the city. Another favorite Shanghai past time is Tai Chi, which is also great to watch especially after a night on the town taking in the city life! Shanghai Circus

　Covering an area of 2,2500 square kilometers, Shanghai Circus World has been renowned as " China 's No 1 Circus World". Suited at Gonghe Xin Lu Road , it has been a popular attraction integrating circus, acrobatic, magic, dancing and music performances. Shanghai Circus World has the Acrobatic Field as its main body, Rehearsal Uxiliary Building , Animal House and Cultural and Commercial city as side installations.

　As the main body of Shanghai Circus World, the Acrobatics Field has 1,638 seats. The field is equipped with modern computer-controlled lighting facilities, multi track and stereo sound systems. The design of the performance area is creative, making a breakthrough of the traditional style. A revolving stage, an lifting stage and picture-frame stage are set up here. Its modern, overall facilities make the Acrobatics Field well meet the requirement of acrobatic and circus competitions, as well as provide an excellent space for general music performance.

　It is a giant building with rooms for elephants, chimps, horse, giant pandas and some fierce beasts including tigers, lions. Occupying an area of around 1,540 kilometers, the building is equipped with all possible up-dated facilities.

　The glittering Shanghai Circus World has been well known internationally. The prominent Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe gives its sensational performances here on a regular basis. Since it first opened to public in 1999, Shanghai Circus World has been the stages for more than 800 performances. It once received representatives of the Universal Postal Union convention and held the Closing Ceremony of the 1999 Shanghai Tourism Festival. Now the place has become the center for national and international acrobatic and circus performances exhibitions and exchanges.

Night Cruising on Huangpu River

　Huangpu River , the most important shipping artery of Shanghai , wriggles like an undulating muddy dragon from the mouth of the Yangtze River in Wusong to the East China Sea . The yellow and ice-free Huangpu River is 114 kilometers long, 400 meters wide and has an average depth of nine meters.

　Huangpu River joins 29 kilometers north of downtown Shanghai and divides Shanghai into two parts, east and west. Cruises are available everyday. Whether it is in the daytime or at night, the views along the river are the same beautiful. The great modern skyscrapers and the characteristic buildings in different architectural styles are the best records of the development of the city and the Huangpu River , the birthplace of Shanghai , is the faithful eyewitness.

  　The most famous and attractive sight which is at the west side of the Bund are the 52 various buildings of different architectural styles including Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classicism and the Renaissance. The Bund was the centre of Shanghai 's politics, economy and culture hundreds of years ago, consulates of most countries and many banks, businesses and newspaper offices were settled there, and that's why we have these art-like buildings. Although they were not designed by the same person or built in the same period, the architectural pattern is similar.
